Deadline: 15 January 2011
Balite zine (ideya, kultura, mystika)
An indigenous exploration of the idea, culture, and mystique of the term Balite in the form of an art zine that will blend pop/everyday art into the realms of mythology and folklore.
What we are looking for:
1) Ekphrasis- works of any genre that are a direct response to the artworks of Grupo Ocho now in exhibit at Balite Falls, Amadeo. In your submission, you must state which artist and artwork you are responding to.
2) Literature- works that evoke the mystique of Balite, the creatures that live there, the stories that lurk there, the poetry that fuels the duende of the imagination (Lorca). We also accept true stories, folklore, tall tales, and non-fiction narratives on the idea or culture of Balite. We accept works in English and Filipino.
3) Art- sculpture, photography, paintings, etc. (meaning don’t be tied down by these definitions of art) that deal with the culture and the mystique of Balite. We can only accept black and white works for now.
4) Pop-art- fashion looks and/or dance shots inspired by the Balite.
5) Music- evocative, beat-driven sound that conjures up visions of Balite, and its numerous inhabitants.
*Guidelines
1) Each individual can submit up to 3 works PER GENRE. This means you may submit 3 works for ekphrasis, 3 works of Literature, 3 works of art, 3 works of pop-art, 3 musical pieces. Please submit no more than 3 works PER GENRE because it drives us (the editors) crazy when people don’t follow guidelines.
2) Except for art pieces that must be attached in jpeg format, text submissions must be submitted in the body of the e-mail. Otherwise, some editors will not be able to read them.
3) Submit only at balitezine@yahoo.com. Please don’t submit elsewhere, because your submission might be lost. Submissions will be accepted until JANUARY 15, 2010.
4) Payment is 1 contributor copy while proceeds go to Balite Falls, Amadeo.
5) Launching of Balite zine will be on February 2010, in time for the Arts Month Celebration at Balite Falls, Amadeo.
