The Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Qatar University, Doha invites applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position in literature with a specialization in Long 18th Century English Literature, beginning September 2011. Area of research is open to scholars working in Long 18th Century fiction and poetry; interest in literary and critical theory would complement the work of our existing faculty. The Department of English Literature and Linguistics is committed to familiarizing students with both formal and functional approaches to literature and to building an inclusive intellectual community.

Duties and responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Long 18th century literature, romanticism, courses on Restoration and Long 18th-century literature and other introductory literature courses; advising students through specific meetings and office hours (4 hours per week); supervising graduation projects; and being an active member in the department, college, and university communities.

Competencies: All QU faculty members must demonstrate effectiveness in the following categories: teaching; academic advising and program development; scholarly, professional and/or creative activities; and institutional and/or community service.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English literature with specialization in Long 18th century literature and significant record of publications in this field (commensurate with rank) in a range of reputable journals; evidence of superior teaching at the undergraduate level; interest in teaching core and general curriculum courses in literature; IT proficiency for personal and classroom use; and ability to provide leadership and engage in department development.
