The Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Qatar University, Doha, invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor position in English Literature with a specialization in literary criticism and theory, to begin fall 2011.

Area of research is open to scholars working in literary criticism. Research interest in literary theory and cross-disciplinary work will be considered a plus. The Department of English Literature and Linguistics is committed to familiarizing students with a wide range of voices, perspectives, and cultures, and to building an inclusive intellectual community.

Duties and responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Literary Criticism and Literature (3 per semester); contributing to the university core curriculum; advising students through specific meetings and office hours (4 hours per week); supervising graduation projects; and being an active member in the department, college, and university communities.

Competencies: All QU faculty members must demonstrate effectiveness in the following categories: teaching; academic advising and program development; scholarly, professional and/or creative activities; and institutional and/or community service.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English literature and literary criticism; significant record of publications in the field of specialization (commensurate with rank) in a range of reputable journals; evidence of superior teaching at the undergraduate at the university level; interest in teaching core and general curriculum courses in literature; IT proficiency for personal and classroom use; and ability to provide leadership and engage in department development.
