GO ISRAEL Essay Contest Rules
* All contest participants must be between the ages of 17 and 26.
* All contest entries become the property of The Friends of Israel and will not be returned. The Friends of Israel reserves the right to publish online, in Israel My Glory magazine, or in other Friends of Israel publications and promotional materials, one or all essays, along with photographs of the winners.
* All applicants must be available to participate in the Origins 2011 trip (June 14–July 13, 2011) and must meet application requirements for Origins 2011, including the ability to handle fairly rigorous hiking and physical labor. Consult the application for all the requirements.
* The 1st and 2nd place winners are responsible for transportation to and from the point of departure. Costs not covered include passport; items of a personal nature, such as laundry, telephones, room service; lunches; food or beverage of any kind that is not listed on the menus for breakfast and dinner.
* The 3rd place winner may enroll for FREE in one IJS online course of his or her choosing, beginning with the fall 2011 session.
How to Submit Your GO ISRAEL Essay
* Before you start writing, please fill out the Origins Application Request form at the bottom of this page to request an Origins 2011 application and trip brochure. They will be e-mailed to you within 3 business days. Fill out the application, put your last name and first initial in the document title, and save it to your computer because you must attach it when you submit your essay entry. All entries must be submitted by email, accompanied by an Origins 2011 application.
* All entries must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents. Name your Microsoft Word document as follows: GO.LastName.FirstInitial.doc (Ex. GO.Coleman.L.doc).
* All entries must be written in English.
* Please keep in mind that your essay must be your original work. Essays will be judged on the basis of originality, content, and excellence.
* Your essay must include the following information at the top of each page:
(1) Your name
(2) Mailing address
(3) E-mail address
(4) Daytime telephone number where we can reach you if you win.
* Submit your essay and completed Origins 2011 application by e-mailing both as attachments in the same e-mail to Laura Coleman: LColeman@foi.org no later than April 1, 2011.
* Notification of receipt of your e-mail containing your essay and completed ORIGINS 2011 application will be sent to you by e-mail. If you do not receive notification by e-mail within 3 business days after sending, please contact Laura Coleman by phone (1-800-257-7843) during FOI business hours (Monday – Friday between 8:30A.M. and 4:30P.M. Eastern Time) to make sure it was received.
How and when will the GO ISRAEL Essay Contest winners be notified?
* Winners will be notified by telephone on or before April 15, 2011.
