Cordite 35: “Australia-Korea”
We are pleased to announce that submissions are now open for Cordite 35, a special Australia-Korea themed issue which will be presented as part of an international poetry exchange. Contributors to the issue will have their work translated and published in both Australia and Korea. In addition, three contributors will be chosen to travel to Seoul in May 2011 to present their work and meet and collaborate with Korean poets.
About the issue
This special issue, to be launched in April 2011, will bring together works by contemporary Australian and Korean poets in an unique, bi-lingual online platform. It is a partnership between Cordite, Asialink, the Australia Council for the Arts, the Australian International Cultural Council, the Malcolm Robertson Foundation and the Korea Literature Translation Institute. It is timed to coincide with the Australia Korea Year of Friendship 2011, celebrating sixty years of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Republic of Korea.
Open theme
In its calls for submission, Cordite usually seeks new creative poetic works that address a particular theme. For this issue, while the overarching aim is Australia-Korea relations, we are instead seeking works on any theme. Although works that take Korean themes as their inspiration will of course be considered, the focus is on attracting engaging, innovative, translatable and contemporary works, no matter their ostensible subject(s).
Editors
The editor for the Australian contributions will be Cordite’s Managing Editor, David Prater. In tandem with this call for submissions, Cordite will work with a Korean poetry editor, tasked with collating a similar collection of works by Korean poets (TBC). Both sets of works will be translated and made available on the Cordite website in English and Korean.
Engagement
The aim of this special issue is to bring together works by Australian and Korean poets on one platform, and to then use this platform to engage with literary themes and preoccupations in both countries. This call for submissions therefore also includes a call for non-fiction, literary criticism, books reviews, electronic literature and other artistic works.
Future stages
Subsequent stages of this project will involve collaborations between the selected Australian and Korean poets, a web and print anthology of works, and visits by three Australian poets to Korea and three Korean poets to Australia. Participants in these stages will be selected on the basis of the quality of works submitted to the Australia-Korea issue.
How to submit
Contributions will only be accepted via the Cordite online submission form. The following conditions will apply:
1. All works will be selected anonymously. Do not print your name on your submission document!
2. Cordite only accepts unpublished works, and will not consider simultaneously submitted works.
3. A maximum of five (5) poems per submission.
4. Please send your works in one (1) Word or RTF document.
5. Submissions will close at midnight on January 15,2011 (AEST).
When you are ready to submit, please visit our online submission form and fill in all the relevant fields.
GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Cordite maintains an anonymous submissions policy for all poetry submissions. This means that the guest editor for each issue does not know the identities of contributors until after the final selections have been made. We regret that we are not able to offer feedback on individual poems.
Simultaneous submissions or previously published material will not be considered. This includes works published in print and web journals but does not apply to material first published on personal blogs.
Cordite accepts submissions from any place on planet earth. Thanks to the generous support of the Australia Council for the Arts we are able to offer payments to our Australian contributors.
FEATURES
Contributions of long articles, essays or interviews should be discussed with the editors before submission. Use our inquiry form.
