Introduction

1. One “Best Children's Picture Book Award”, which the winner will be awarded a Cash Prize of USD 20,000 and a Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award Trophy. If the writing and the illustration are not produced by the same person, the Cash Prize shall be split equally between the writer and illustrator.

2. Four “Judging Panel's Recommended Award” (Presentation of these awards or not depends on quality of the entries for the year), where the winners will be each awarded a Cash Prize of USD 5,000 and a Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award Trophy.

3. The Organizer may publish a book introducing the 15 final entry works for promotional purposes.

Rules and Regulations

1. Entry must be Chinese children’s picture book published between January 2009 and December 2010.
2. Entry must be an original creation written in the Chinese language.
3. Although the theme and genre of entries are unrestricted, the content and format shall be suitable for children aged 3 to 12.
4. Entries cannot be plagiarized works or infringements of copyrights of any third parties. Once proven, such work shall be disqualified and the award (if any) shall be rescinded. Entrants bear all legal responsibilities, and indemnify the award organizers against loss & damage of submitted manuscripts.
5. The organizer possesses the right to use the content such as words and illustrations of any entries for the purposes of promoting the Award.

Judging Criteria

1. Content and format should be suitable for children aged 3 to 12.
2. Content should be interesting and creative, with knowledge conveyed in an accurate and straight-forward manner. Illustrations in picture books containing knowledge must be accurate and clear.
3. Drawing techniques should be sophisticated in order to enhance the overall visual aesthetic effect.
4. Illustrations should be appropriate interpretations of the theme, plot, concept, characters, settings and atmosphere, and should reflect the writing.
5. The overall presentation of the book – including details like font , layout design, printing and binding – will also be judged and therefore should be taken into consideration.
6. Entries should encourage creativity and innovation as well as inspire ideas in readers.

Judging

1. The organizer will form a professional judging panel which will assess entries according to the formulated judging criteria.
2. Announcement of the Feng Zikai Chinese Children’s Picture Book Award: July 2011.
3. In the event of dispute, the organizer reserves the right to reach a final decision.

How to Enter

1. Entry submission period commences on 1 January, 2011 and ends on 28 February, 2011 (based on the stamp date).
2. Copies of Entry: Please submit 5 volumes per single book, or 5 sets per book set. In addititon, please send electronic manuscripts. The organizer will retain possession of all copies following the assessment.
3. All entry materials, including books for entry, completed application form and information sheet, should be sent by mail to the address below.
