Chuo University, comprised of six colleges, is one of the oldest and leading private universities based in Tokyo, Japan. The University has established an outstanding record of academic excellence since it was founded in 1885, and it currently serves approximately 27,000 students. The Faculty of Policy Studies offers two areas of concentration, Policy Science and Cultural Studies. The Faculty is seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Job Title: Full Time Lecturer in English
Starting Date: April 1, 2011

Contract: The contract is initially for one year, but is renewable every year for up to three years provided that the duties are performed satisfactorily.

Responsibilities: Lecturers teach six classes (90 minutes each) per week in English Writing, Reading, and Speaking to students who are grouped into small classes according to their level of English proficiency. Lecturers also teach two academic courses in their fields of expertise in English.

Qualifications: Native English competency; Master's degree or, preferably, PhD; a proven record of academic achievement, including research publication; teaching experience at the university level. Applications will be considered from candidates whose expertise falls within the general range of the Social Sciences or the Humanities. Preference may be given to candidates with training and experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language. Proficiency in Japanese is desirable but not required. Candidates currently residing in Japan are not eligible for the position.

Salary/Benefits: Annual salary of 5,070,000 yen (approximately US$56,000 at the exchange rate of ¥90/$); airfare to Tokyo (reimbursed upon arrival); furnished accommodation (pre-assigned and subsidized at the cost of 42,200 yen per month to the Lecturer); health insurance; return airfare upon termination of the contract.
