POSTECH, a renowned university of science and technology, Pohang, Korea, seeks a qualified and highly motivated full-time English lecturer in the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. POSTECH admits a small but very select number of high school graduates and supports them by providing an environment ideally suited to learning with a low student/faculty ratio. The university has been ranked as the best university in Korea and the 28th in the THES world university rankings, Harvard being the first.

(1) Requirements and qualifications

• Native speaker of English who is in Korea
• Master’s degree is required
• Ph.D degree is preferred
• Editing experience preferred
• Minimum one year of teaching experience at the university level is required

(2) Main duties and responsibilities

• Teaching credit classes for no less than 12 hours per week during 16-week semesters. The classes will be split between freshmen classes and elective classes for upperclassmen.
• Teaching non-credit classes at the POSTECH Language Education Center for 6 to 9 hours a week for 12-week semesters. Language Center classes are paid at a rate of 35,000 won per hour.
• During intensive five-week summer and winter semesters, teaching two credit classes, two hours a day per class, five days a week, for a total of 20 hours a week. 10 of these hours are paid at a rate of 45,000 won per hour. Also teaching non-credit classes at the POSTECH Language Education Center at a rate of 35,000 won an hour.
• Cooperating with the faculty members of POSTCH.

(3) Salary and benefits

• The base annual salary in the first year is 33,600,000 won, including the “thirteenth” month. The monthly salary is 2,584,615 won before tax. This is for the credit courses. Including overtime pay for teaching non-credit Language Center courses and “additional” classes during the intensive summer and winter terms, the total salary will reach at least 50,000,000 won in the first year.
• A three bedroom unfurnished faculty apartment will be provided free of rent. The instructor is responsible for utility bills.
• An office shared with another instructor, a phone, a computer will be provided.
• A medical insurance premium of approximately 62,000 won will be deducted to cover health care at doctors and hospitals.
• An amount of approximately 126,000 will be deducted for a pension plan. The university matches the contribution to the pension plan.

(4) Contract Conditions

• Annual contract renewal: beginning December 25th, 2010 and ending in December 24, 2011 is preferred. However, the contract beginning March 1, 2011 and ending in February 28, 2012 is also possible.
• POSTECH will offer a permanent position to a qualified instructor based on the evaluations of the first year. Under the renewed contract, the annual salary will be increased to 69,000,000 won with 25 hours a week duty.
