Deadline: 21 January 2011
Eligibility:
Eligible candidates must have an undergraduate degree and be a national of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mongolia, Oman, Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic, United Arab Emirates.
Overview:
The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme cultivates the leaders of tomorrow from transition and emerging economies by providing outstanding university graduates and young professionals with:
• The opportunity to pursue fully funded graduate studies at the University of Oxford.
• Access to a comprehensive programme of leadership development, long-term mentoring and networking.
Overall, the programme provides Scholars with the knowledge, skills and international networks necessary to contribute optimally to public life in their countries and regions of origin and to build lasting professional linkages across cultures and continents. The programme is managed by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD). The scholarship is tenable only at the University of Oxford.
Criteria:
Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they aspire through their professional work to contribute to the public good in their country or region, or on a global basis. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a connection between their subject of study and their longer-term career objectives.
This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other awards. The Scholarships are only available to students who are not already studying at the University of Oxford.
Application Procedure:
Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by ticking the Weidenfeld Scholarship box in the University of Oxford Scholarships section of the graduate application form.
You must also complete and upload together with your graduate application form a Weidenfeld Scholarship Questionnaire. The questionnaire can be downloaded from this webpage (see ‘Downloads’ section).
Failure to apply in full by the deadline will mean that you will not be considered for the scholarship, even if you have selected ‘Weidenfeld’ on the Graduate Application Form. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an expenses-paid interview weekend in Oxford in early May 2011.
What costs are covered by the Scholarships?
The Scholarship covers tuition and college fees for the entire length of your postgraduate degree (up to 3 years) plus an annual full grant for living costs (£13,500 in 2010/11).
