Description: Fazlul Haque Memorial Award, named after pioneering cine-journalist and director of President (the first film for children made here) late Fazlul Haque, was initiated by his wife, renowned litterateur Rabeya Khatun in 2004. Every year the organisers select two individuals for the award -- one for cine-journalism and the other for film direction. Fazlul Haque was born in 1930 in Bogra. He was one the pioneers of film journalism in Bangladesh. He was editor of Cinema, the first newspaper on film, and also director of the first children's film "President" that was made here. In his honour, his wife, noted litterateur Rabeya Khatun initiated the Fazlul Haque Memorial Award on behalf of the Fazlul Haque Memorial Committee. Previous recipients of the award include Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury, Syed Shamsul Haque, Fazal Shahabuddin, Rafiquzzaman, Hiren Dey and Abdur Rahman in film journalism, and Soovas Dutt, Humayun Ahmed, Chashi Nazrul Islam, Amjad Hossain, Saidul Anam Tutul and Golam Rabbani Biplob in filmmaking.
