The U.S. Embassy is hosting a poetry competition from September 1 to September 30. The theme of the poetry competition is “Our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Pride.”
Eligibility: Authors must be Bahraini residents between the ages of 15-30.
Deadline for Submission: Poems must be submitted no later than September 30, 2010. The winner will be announced by visiting Native American poet Kimberly Blaeser at an event hosted by the Embassy in early October. Authors who submit poems will be contacted separately regarding the details of the awards ceremony.
Prize: The winner will receive a laptop computer and the winning poem will be featured on the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook page and web site.
Poem requirements: Any style of poetry is acceptable (e.g. abstract, lyric, free verse, etc.). Poems must be 24 lines or less and written in English. Poems must be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format. Entries should be e-mailed to ManamaPAO@state.gov with the subject line “Poetry Competition.” Please include your full name, age, and contact details.
Selection process: A committee comprised of Bahrainis and Americans will evaluate the submitted poems and determine a winner.
Terms and Conditions: The poetry must be an original, unpublished poem that has not been submitted elsewhere. Only one submission is allowed per participant.
