Paying Market: Roar and Thunder

20 September 2010
Paying Market: Roar and Thunder
Deadline: open

Roar and Thunder aims to publish a story on the 1st, 10th and 20th of each month. Stories are free to read online or if you’d like to read it on your eReader (most major types catered for), or as a PDF, then you can purchase it for a $1 AUS through Smashwords [Coming Soon!].

The occasional extra story will appear as a podcast for you to listen to online.

Subscribe to the RSS for posts to be notified of each new story, and if you’d like to comment on the site or on a story, head to the Editor’s Blog.

Editor M. hopes in the future to be able to pay authors more for their stories (when the site starts breaking even), but for now the rate is a flat $5 AUS. Also note that payments will be made via PayPal.

Roar and Thunder is looking for short stories (up to 6,000 words) that have elements of magic, horror, fantasy and science fiction.

Things to consider before submitting:
- Explicit sex and violence must have a good reason for being in your story.
- If your story expresses your dislike of a race, sex or sexual orientation then don’t submit it here.
- Serial killers and sexual violence will probably get you knocked back.
- Poems will be considered but aren’t the main business of Roar and Thunder.
- Don’t submit fanfiction or stories derivative of other people’s work.
- Simultaneous submissions are fine, but if your story is accepted here and then you pull it, don’t expect us to be impressed.

The process:
- Please save your file in .rtf format.
- Attach one story at a time to an email.
- The Subject should be the name of your story.
- Send to: subs at roarandthunder dot com dot au
- Editor M. will endeavour to respond within 4 weeks.
- On rejection you’ll receive some feedback on your story.
- If accepted you will get a payment of $5 AU for your story*.
- Successful stories will appear on this website and on Smashwords*.
- Some stories will appear on this website as podcasts instead of text.
