Description

The Department of Near Eastern Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, Cornell University, seeks a dynamic Arabic language professional to join its growing Arabic program for a full-time position as Lecturer of Arabic beginning in the academic year 2011-2012. The position is for two years with a possibility of renewal and is contingent upon performance reviews as well as funding availability. The position may involve spending the spring semester at a university in Jordan teaching Arabic to a group of Cornell students. Qualifications

Requirements are: 1. Master's degree or equivalent in Arabic language, literature, linguistics, or language pedagogy; 2. Native or near native fluency in Arabic: oral fluency in a spoken Arabic dialect and written fluency in Modern Standard Arabic; 3. Proficiency in spoken and written English; 4. Recognition of colloquial Arabic as a legitimate linguistic form, and willingness to teach colloquial Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic in the same course; 5. Familiarity with and commitment to innovative methods of language teaching.
