The Governor-General's Undergraduate Essay Competition is Australia's most prestigious essay competition. It is open to Australian undergraduate students (including LLB, JD and honours students) studying in all faculties at universities across Australia and includes questions that are related to law, politics and history.
This is the 7th year of the Competition, which awards up to $33,000 in cash prizes annually.
Rules
To participate in the Governor-General's Undergraduate Essay Competition, you must be an Australian citizen enrolled in an undergraduate degree at an Australian university for all or part of 2010. If you are eligible to enter, follow these simple steps:
1. Read the questions closely and choose the one you wish to answer in 2500 words or less.
2. Prepare your answer carefully. Follow this formatting:
- 12 point Times New Roman font
- Double-spacing
- PDF, Microsoft Word, Works or Word Perfect document only
- Do NOT put your name anywhere on your entry. (Your name should only appear on the cover sheet for entry details - not on your essay).
3. Fill out the cover sheet and submit it with your essay to CEFA by either of the following two methods:

4. The closing date for the 2010 Competition is Friday, 17th December 2010, 5:00pm AEST.
5. Finalists will be contacted in 2011 and may be required to appear before the judging panel in to answer questions about their written answer and a supplementary question (for which a written answer is not required). Interviews may be conducted by telephone link.
6. Winners are announced by press release following the Judging Final. Awards are presented at the annual Governor-General's Award ceremony.
7. Participants not selected for the finals are notified by email.
