Third International Short Contest Story “A Sea of Words” (Euro-Mediterranean)
(We suppose writers from Lebanon, Israel, Syria, and other Asian countries on the Mediterranean area may submit.)

The Anna Lindh Foundation and the European Institute of the Mediterranean call the third international short contest story “A Sea of Words”, aimed at youths from the 43 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area.

The contest is for the production of short stories focused on personal and social progress and the effort for the construction of more just, egalitarian and inclusive societies, with the objective of showing the different sensibilities and realities experienced in the Euro-Mediterranean region from the point of view of the young people who live there.

Requisites for participation

The contest is aimed at young people under 30 years of age, citizens of the 43 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean space.

Format of the stories

The stories must have a maximum of 2,500 words and can be written in any of the official languages of the participating countries. They must be completely original works and unpublished. The stories must deal with issues related to intercultural dialogue, especially of a political, socio-cultural, economic and environmental nature.

Deadline and submission of the stories

All short stories must be sent to the following email: concurso@iemed.org

The authors must provide their personal details (name and surname, date of birth, nationality, address, email and telephone) when submitting their stories.

The stories can be sent by email until midnight on 15th of September 2010.

Participation in the contest implies the ceding to the IEMed and the Anna Lindh Foundation of the copyright of the participating work. The Anna Lindh Foundation and the IEMed reserve the right to publish and use the works received in their future activities.

National selections

The national networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation will pre-select the five best stories of each country and provide their translation into English. These stories will be sent to the international jury.

International selection

The Anna Lindh Foundation and the IEMed will set up an international jury, whose composition will be made public on the contest website. The international jury will be formed by five figures from the literary, academic and journalism worlds of the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area.

The international jury will have a maximum period of 30 days, from 1st September, to choose the best stories from those pre-selected by the national networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation. In total, 20 stories will receive prizes.

The writers of the 20 best short stories will have their works published and will participate in the following activities:
