Description: Jawdat Haydar Poetry Recital Competition organized by The Friends of Poet Jawdat Haydar in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Various schools from across the country take part in this competition, where students recite the poetry of Lebanese poet Haydar as part of the ministry’s efforts to introduce Lebanon’s youth to their own national poets and “strengthen their public speaking skills.” Perpetuating the tradition of 20th century Lebanese writers who have contributed world literature in the English language, Haydar published his first anthology “Voices” in 1980, followed by “Echoes,” and “Shadows.” In 2006, he published his last book “101 Selected Poems” at the age of 101. The poet has also been honored with awards for his humanitarian work.
