An Islamic Novel Writing Competition in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Islamic Dakwah Centre, is intended at increasing reference materials in the collection of novels with religious concept. It also aims to develop the skill of local writers, and at the same time improve the quality of writing in Brunei Darussalam. In an interview with RTB, the Head of the Research and Production Section of the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Awang Haji Mail bin Besar said such a competition has a welfare benefit because the writings will be published and read by the public.

Awang Haji Mail also said that the competition also aims to encourage writers to give contributions in the form of dakwah through their writings, and it is one way of delivering the message or Islamic dakwah to the public. It is also one of the ways to obtain materials in the form of novels, as currently, the country needs more novels with Islamic contents and that such a competition would bring forward writers with the appropriate capability. The increase in Islamic novels will also increase the number of reference materials in the form of such novels.

The competition is open to subjects of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and permanent residents who are 18 years of age and above. Focus of the writing must be on religious teachings and development of the Muslim community of a Malay Islamic Monarchy nation. The closing date of the competition is the 30th of December 2010.

Entry forms can be had at the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Kampung Pulaie, Jalan Kebangsaan or through contact by telephone line 2-3-8-3-9-9-6 Extension 2-0-2 or 2-0-3 or Da'wah Units in the other 3 district.

The competition offers cash prizes of 12 thousand dollars for the champion, 8 thousand dollars for the second winner and 5 thousand dollar for the third, as well as 5 consolation prizes of 2 thousand dollars each.
