Out of Print: The Short Story Online Out of Print is an online literary journal for short fiction.
Out of Print is an online literary journal for short fiction that appears quarterly. We are based out of India but we seek writing from or with a connection to the subcontinent. We welcome submissions from established as well as from new writers.
We also look for art that we feature on our home page - work that, in the artist’s view, tells a story connected to the region.
Contact us at info@outofprintmagazine.co.in or check us out on facebook at ‘Out of Print: The Short Story Online’.
Call for Submissions
We seek original writing in English or translated into English that is strong, well-crafted and reflects the pace and transition of our times. Based out of India, we view writing with a connection to the subcontinent with particular interest but are open to submissions from around the world. We encourage new writers and we encourage writing that tells a story.
The journal will appear quarterly. The first issues will be put together from solicited work. We aim to invite guest editors to work with us from time to time.
Specifics:
- Submitted work must not be published elsewhere unless specifically solicited by us.
- Simultaneous submissions are accepted but we ask to be informed immediately upon acceptance elsewhere.
- Stories should be between 1000 and 4000 words but in special cases, editorial discretion may be applied. Specific issues may be dedicated to shorter or longer forms.
- We cannot accept offensive, excessively violent or sexually explicit writing.
- Please provide a cover letter which includes the following contact information: name, postal address, email address and telephone number.
- Please provide a brief biographical sketch of no more than 150 words.
- Submissions should be cut and paste into the body of an email and sent to submissions@outofprintmagazine.co.in. Subject line should contain the word ‘submission’ only.
- On acceptance we may ask you to work with us on editorial changes.
- Copyright remains with the author. Should your piece be published again, we request the courtesy of an acknowledgement stating that the piece was first published in Out of Print
We aim to be able to pay our authors but at this point we continue to seek sponsors who would allow that to be possible. In the mean time we hope you will contribute to one of India’s first literary ezines that honours the short story.
