Description: A $10,000 prize is awarded in each of the following categories: a work of imaginative writing, a work of non-fiction, and a work of poetry (the Dinny O'Hearn prize). The three chosen books is for the overall Age Book of the Year, the winner of which will receive an additional $10,000. The winners are announced at The Age Book of the Year function during the Melbourne Writers’ Festival. The award is open to books written by someone born or a resident of Australia to encourage and promote Australian writing and books entered must be of a literary merit.
