Open for submissions July 1-October 1, 2010
Children and teens to age 17
Vanilla Heart Publishing, through the VHP imprint, Evergreen Books, is issuing a call for nature writing by and for children and teens. The works may address any aspect of nature from a tiny meadow flower to a towering mountaintop and all the creatures that inhabit the wild places in our world. From seashore to sandy desert, from a cool green forest to the shimmering light through towering forest trees, our world is filled with wild places and delights that children often see with a clear eye and open heart, and those are the very things we want to publish.
We'll be publishing Wild Child in both print and electronic formats. A portion of the profits from both this anthology and Be A Wild Child! Junior Earth Mage Activity Book, to be published later this year, will be donated to the non-profit National Forest Association, a national organization supporting education, enjoyment, and renewal of wild lands and nature's bounty. You can learn more about National Forest Association at their Website: www.NationalForestAssociation.org
Poems should be 50 lines or fewer and prose 150-5000 words. The Original Earth Mage, Smoky Trudeau, will be Lead Editor on this fabulous project.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
Please submit as an attachment in either .doc or .rtf format, with child's name, title of submission, parent/guardian name, address and email both on the attachment (first page) and in the body of the email for identification purposes, to WildChild@JuniorEarthMage.com.
Parent or guardian of authors of the selected pieces will be sent publication release forms prior to publication in either print or electronic editions, and will have the opportunity at that time to choose how their child is identified, for privacy and security purposes.
Authors (and their parent/guardian) whose pieces are selected will be notified by October 15, 2010.
All selected contributors, in addition to receiving the print copy of the published anthology in which they appear, will also be announced on the Junior Earth Mage Website, The Earth Mage Website, Vanilla Heart Publishing Website, and on Facebook and Xanga blogs, as well as inclusion in the donation letter to the National Forest Association.
