This anthology contains a selection of poems by Bei Dao, Luljeta Lleshanaku, Gary Snyder, and eleven other internationally renowned poets hailing from Albania, Egypt, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the United States, Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. These poets originally assembled in Hong Kong in November of 2009 to attend a gala celebration of poetry and recitation: International Poetry Nights in Hong Kong& mdash;the first such gathering in the territory's history. These works, selected by the poets themselves, are published in their original language as well as in Chinese and English. Included is a documentary DVD recording the remarkable events of this unique gathering and the backgrounds of the poets who participated.

About the Editors

Gilbert C. F. Fong is an adjunct professor in the Department of Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Bei Dao is a one of China's most celebrated poets. His early poems were a source of inspiration during the April Fifth Democracy Movement of 1976, a peaceful demonstration in Tiananmen Square. He has taught at Stanford University, the University of California at Davis, and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, amoung other institutions, and his poetry collections include Unlock, At the Sky's Edge: Poems 1991-1996, Landscape Over Zero, and Forms of Distance. His work has been translated into more than twenty-five languages.
