Description: The Hong Kong Public Libraries has always taken the promotion of local literary arts as an important goal. With the provision of a rich and balanced library collection and organization of territory-wide literary awards and events, the Public Libraries aims to cultivate public interest in reading and creative writing. Since the inception of Hong Kong Literature Festival in 1997, the Public Libraries has devoted to become a hub of literary activities that bring together literary talents to achieve the goal. For the 8th edition of the Festival, running from 24 June to 11 July 2010, there will be a variety of activities to celebrate the city’s vibrant literary scene with the public. Adopting the theme “Footprints Along the Way” this year, the Public Libraries have invited eminent writers, scholars, cultural critics and literary groups to trace the considerable footprints left in the development of Hong Kong literature. They will guide the participants to appreciate traditional literary genres, to review the evolution of literary themes, and to enjoy reading of award winning works as well as beautiful poems. There is a new series of programme entitled “Passing on the Torch: Talk Series of Hong Kong Writers” that highlights our theme about passing on the passionate spirit for literary creativity between generations. And the thematic exhibition will feature the literary phenomena which signify the multi-faceted aspects of local literature to the public.
