Book Trailer Contest for Writers and Small Presses
I. PRIZES AND CATEGORIES

Two prizes of $350 as well as on-air, Web, and print promotion by Quiddity will be awarded—one prize in each of the categories listed below (Runners-up and/or honorable mentions may also be selected):

M ANUSCRIPTS
This category awards for a video trailer for an unpublished book-length work of prose that has not yet found its home with a publisher (i.e., is not under contract for production in any manner,
including electronic, on-demand, or vanity publishing). Chapbooks are not eligible. Entries must be submitted by the writer. Writers may submit one video trailer for a manuscript.

BOOKS
This category awards for a video trailer for a book-length work of prose that either has been
recently (January 2008 – present) published by or is forthcoming from a small or independent
press that publishes fewer than ten titles per year. Vanity publishers and on-demand printers are not eligible. Chapbooks are not eligible. Entries must be submitted by the publisher. Publishers may submit one video trailer each for up to three books.

II. CONTEST AIMS

T o help writers promote their book-length manuscripts to potential publishers and agents (“Manuscripts” category)

T o help promote books from small and independent presses to potential readers, independent bookstores, venues, buyers, reviewers, and distributors (“Books” category)

T o provide a supportive, mission-driven promotional venue for small and independent presses as well as writers to advance their book-length works

III. TO ENTER
Complete, sign, and mail the appropriate entry form attached herein and available at Quiddity ’s
website: sci.edu/quiddity .
o Authors should complete the entry form for the “Manuscripts” category.
o Publishers should complete the entry form for the “Books” category.
Include a #10 SASE when you mail your entry form.
Entry forms must be postmarked by October 20, 2010.

IV. BOOK TRAILER REQUIREMENTS

Book trailers may be up to three (3) minutes in length. Trailers over three minutes are not
eligible.

Entrants may partner with other individuals, organizations, classes, etc. in the creation of the
trailer.

Entrants are responsible for all copyright considerations surrounding the book trailer and its
contents; Quiddity assumes no ownership or copyright surrounding the book trailer or its
contents. Quiddity seeks only non-exclusive rights to promote the trailer via its print journal,
Website (including streaming), and public-radio broadcast.
