A Person of Color for Poet Laureate
It's been 17 long years since the Library of Congress has appointed a poet of color as Poet Laureate (Rita Dove). And overall, out of 46 appointments, the Library of Congress has only ever appointed THREE poets of color (Robert Hayden, Gwendolyn Brooks, & Rita Dove). The Library of Congress needs to enter the 21st Century by diversifying it's poets and appointing poets of color. How about a Latino poet? Or a Native American poet? or an Asian American poet? Diversity please!
