Creative Writing Internship In India
A unique and exciting opportunity to travel in India and co-author an expose on Indian police corruption and system failures. The person you will be co-authoring with is an ex-Border Security Force officer and now director of Nishan (www.nishanjustice.org), a NGO based in India working towards police reform and empowering the people. This former officer has many stories to tell, sometimes touching, sometimes horrifying about events he has witnessed as his time as an officer. He needs your help to make the vision of his book a reality.

As the co-author you will travel to a number of villages in the area of Punjab (where former incidences have taken place) and take notes of your surroundings, people you meet and your impressions. You will write a sort of travel journal about your experiences which will be combined with the co-author's narratives of past events to create a readable, relatable, journalistic style book. The co-author has publishing connections in London and plans to first launch the book there.

We need a special and talented person to fill this position. You must have a flair and passion for writing and posses excellent communication skills. Creative/journalistic writing experience is desired but not a must. As India is a developing country you also need to be prepared for the realities of living and working in an environment that does not meet western standards. You need to be able to stay in India for 2-3 months at least, with the possibility of finishing the book by distance.

If you are interested in this once in a life time opportunity to travel in India and become a published author submit an essay, 500 words or less about a travel experience you've had (whether it be to the local shop or to the Himalayas) along with your CV or resume to internships@nishanjustice.org (subject of the email should be 'writing internship.')

This is an unpaid position but accommodation and travel expenses within India will be provided.
