Oxford Bookstore Calcutta and Roli Books recently celebrated the launch of the book Chinku and the Wolfboy by Anjana Basu. Director and actor Rituparno Ghosh who is a dear friend of Anjana’s released the book along with the author’s young nephew Rahul Dey. The launch was followed by a dramatised reading from the book by renowned storytellers, Daleep and Mira Kakkar.
This is the first children’s book written by Anjana Basu, who already has two other novels to her credit, Curses and Ivory published by Harper Collins India and Black Tongue, an IndiaInk imprint of Roli. Chinku and the Wolfboy is another IndiaInk-Roli imprint and was launched in Calcutta at the end of February. She wrote the book for her nephews who kept demanding birthday books from their author aunt!
For Anjana Basu the book is an exploration of a magical world written in a way that she hopes will appeal both to the child and the child at heart. It also highlights the importance that stories and memories play in our lives.
Anjana Basu is also a poet whose recent collection Picture Poems and Word Seasons was brought out by Authorpress, Delhi. She lives and works in Calcutta.
