Not related to writing, but this sounds like a great opportunity for Filipinos:
The National Youth Commission Philippines (NYC) is inviting all qualified youth, between 18 to 30 years old as of April 1, 2010, to apply as one of the 28 participating youth to represent the Philippines in the 37th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP). NYC is also inviting men and women between 35 to 50 years to apply for National Leader to lead the Philippine delegation.
The SSEAYP is an annual cultural exchange program among young people from ASEAN member countries and Japan. It is based on the respective joint statements issued in January 1974 between Japan and the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, and the Kingdom of Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined in 1985, following its admission to the ASEAN in January 1984, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam joined in 1996 upon its admission to the ASEAN in July 1995, and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Union of Myanmar joined in 1998 upon their admissions to the ASEAN in July 1997. Furthermore, in 2000, the Kingdom of Cambodia also joined in this program following its admission to the ASEAN in April 1999. This program is carried out by the Government of Japan with the active participation and cooperation of the Southeast Asian countries. The greater part of the activities is centered on the Japanese Ocean Liner Fuji Maru as it makes its fifty two-day cruise in Southeast Asia and Japan.
The purpose of this program is to promote friendship and mutual understanding among youths of Japan and Southeast Asian countries to broaden their perspectives on the world as well as to strengthen their motivations and abilities of international cooperation by participating in discussions, introductions of each country on board, and various exchange activities on board and in the countries to be visited. The participating youths are expected to be in leading positions in youth activities and other various sectors of their own countries after this program. Over the years, the SSEAYP has established itself as one of the most prestigious youth exchange programs in Asia.
