The Women's Literary Festival Committee and the Festival’s generous sponsors are pleased to present this unique day devoted to all readers who want to learn more about women who write and the stories they tell. The event will be held in Santa Barbara on May 1.
The Festival showcases women writers, both those who are already well-known and those who may be less well-known but equally deserving of serious attention. The Festival also celebrates readers and is dedicated to promoting literacy, diversity and social justice.
Among the featured authors for 2010 is Lisa See. Lisa See is the New York Times bestselling author of Peony in Love, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Flower Net (an Edgar Award nominee), The Interior, Dragon Bones, and the critically acclaimed memoir, On Gold Mountain. Lisa has always been intrigued by stories that have been lost, forgotten, or deliberately covered up, whether in the past or happening right now in the world today. Her new novel, Shanghai Girls, once again delves into forgotten history.
(WLF is also pleased to offer scholarships to those who need assistance in order to attend the Festival. Scholarship information may be obtained by contacting Magda Torres at torres@sbcc.edu.)
