Jayant Kaikini Chosen for Kusumagraj National Literary Award
The first Kusumagraj National Literary Award went to noted Kannada poet and writer Jayant Kaikini. The announcement was made by Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open university, Nashik and Kusumagraj Prathisthan.

The award is valued at Rs one lakh with a citation at an award ceremony on March 13. Kaikini, from Bangalore, is a significant young writer in Kannada, who writes short stories, poetry as well as film scripts. He was previously awarded with the Karnataka Sahitya Academy award for his poetry in 1974 and 1982, and for his short story collections in 1989 and 1996.
