Jon Pineda was born in Charleston, South Carolina and raised in Tidewater, Virginia. In 1994, he earned a BA from James Madison University and has studied in the MFA program in Creative Writing at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received an AWP Intro Award and the Departmental Poetry Award. His poetry has appeared in Many Mountains Moving, the Asian Pacific American Journal, Puerto del Sol, and the Literary Review, among others. He recently received a Virginia Commission for the Arts grant. He lives in Norfolk, Virginia with his wife, Amy.

Deadline for the 2009 Poetry Center Book Award has been extended to March 15. Published original books by a single author (no collaborative works, anthologies, translations, or manuscripts) must be copyrighted 2009. Entrees can be submitted by publisher, author, or by a reader.
