M.G. Vassanji Nominated for Governor General's Literary Award
Two-time Giller winner from Toronto, M.G. Vassanji, was nominated for his travel memoir A Place Within: Rediscovering India (Doubleday). Over 1,500 books were submitted this year by publishers for the award. The winners will receive $25,000 each, with a cheque for $1,000 going to the runners up and will be announced in Montreal on Nov. 17.

Beginning in 1936, the Governor General’s Awards celebrate the finest in Canadian literature. They are distributed by the Canada Council for the Arts. The shortlisted English-language finalists will read from their books as part of the International Festival of Authors on Oct. 26.
