SUBMISSION GUIDELINES - LITERARY WORK

Asia Writes features select poetry and short fiction by Asian/mixed-Asian writers. To date, we have featured work by award-winning writers (Palanca, Academy of American Poets Award, Sahitya, Meritage, Unisun-Reliance); Pushcart, Missisauga, and Man Asian Prize finalists; previous Iowa, Charles Wallace, Hawthornden, PEN USA, Kundiman, Vermont Center and other international and reputable local workshop fellows; editors of literary journals; and other important literary figures in Asia.

Who can submit to Asia Writes?

Submissions from writers in Asia-Pacific or of Asian descent are welcome. Writers whom we have previously featured may still submit new work.

What types of work do we accept?

At this time, we only consider unpublished poetry and short fiction. Before submitting, we encourage you to please read some literary pieces that we have featured HERE for you to have a feel of the quality of work we accept. Form and premise are our main considerations when reviewing submissions.

Format

Work should be in English and polished/proofread before submission. Please include a third-person bio (maximum of 200 words), links to your books/personal website (optional), and a photo (optional).

Since we do not reprint literary works, please do not send links to your short stories or poems.

Finally, please submit the final copy of your poem/short story. Once it is published and formatted according to our style guide, we regret that we will not be able to accommodate replacement requests. We can only allow corrections of obvious typographical or formatting errors, not new versions please.

Multiple/simultaneous submissions

We do not mind multiple and/or simultaneous submissions but please notify the other journals/ magazines once you received our acceptance note. We are almost always the first to respond.

Where to send your work

You may send your poetry and short fiction to editors@asiawrites.org (please do NOT cc any of our other e-mail addresses) for consideration. You will shortly receive an acknowledgment receipt.

Reading period and response time

Reading of submissions is year round and since we would like to reserve only the best work, you can expect a quick reply. Response time is 48 hours for accepted work. Submissions are routed to various editors so you may receive an acceptance note from an e-mail address other than editors@asiawrites.org.

We do not send out rejection letters so kindly consider submitting new work if you do not hear from us within two days. We endeavor to feature a wide range of Asian fiction and poetry and we are sure to find a few pieces from your future submissions that are suitable for our Featured Work section.

While we send out acceptance notes within two days, we regret that it takes a few weeks/months before your work is featured. We normally inform the author a day at least before his/her work is published.

Payment

Note that this is a not-for-profit project and Asia Writes cannot pay contributors at this time. At the close of the year, we will nominate a few works to Best of the Net, Best of the Web, and The Pushcart Prize. See our first batch of nominated short stories and poems through these links: Best of the Net - Poetry, Best of the Net - Short Fiction, Best of the Web, Pushcart Prize.

Copyright

Since we do not offer payment, copyright reverts to authors upon publication. However, to give us a little incentive for promptly reading your submissions and responding within two days, we would like to request that Asia Writes be credited as the first publisher in case your work is accepted in another publication.

Others

If there are areas not covered in these guidelines, it means that they are immaterial.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES - ARTICLE/ESSAY

What types of work do we accept?

We read both previously published and unpublished articles/essays. They must be about Asian literature, theater or film. Before submitting, please make sure though that you hold the copyright to your article/essay and that it may already be reprinted.

Format

Aside from the format guidelines mentioned above, you may also send links to your previously published article/essay that we can review.

Reading period and response time

We send out acceptance notes within two days and publish accepted articles/essays upon acceptance.

Others

If there are areas not covered in these guidelines, it means that they are immaterial. Unless otherwise noted, the same guidelines for literary work apply.

ANNOUNCEMENTS/PRESS RELEASES

What types of announcements do we accept?

We are interested in posting calls for submissions, university or publication jobs and fellowships, no-entry-fee competitions, scholarships, grants, and funded workshops related to creative writing, literature, theater, film, journalism, and languages in Asia and the diaspora.

For books and events, we regret that we can only accommodate press releases from our featured writers/ contributors.

Format

Please do not send PDFs, HTML newsletters, or links. Kindly submit your announcement in Word/text format (one file only) or in the body of your e-mail with accompanying photographs as attachment. Provide information on the deadlines/dates, contact e-mail address, and website URL.

Where to submit your announcements

Please use announce@asiawrites.org. Do not cc any of our other e-mail addresses.

Turn-around time
